To be honest, I don't have much to say about any Humanities events I've been to around campus (they have already been blogged about it seems). I've considered writing about the book I'm reading for the Humanities Book Club, but I really want to write about something else that one could admit is related to the Humanities.
I've just been flipping channels when I chanced upon a show on MTV called The Buried Life. It premiered earlier in the year, however, since I don't watch MTV that often I was a bit late in the game regarding the show. What is it about? Well, four guys decided to make a list of what they want to do before they die and set out to complete them. As they do so, they help a perfect stranger do something they want to do before they die. Initially, I was surprised that such a deep show would be airing on MTV, but I consider it to be a nice change.
Ultimately, this show inspired me to do something I've been wanting to do for a while now. I'm trying to apply for a Wushu Summer Camp in China this summer. The program offers people a chance to practice martial arts throughout China (including kung fu at THE Shaolin Temple) as well as learning different aspects of the culture such as language, caligraphy, art, etc. This is a wonderful opportunity that costs a great deal of money. I originally didn't even consider traveling to China this summer because of the costs, but after watching these four guys crossing out crazy things on their list I've decided that I won't write something off before I try. So, I'm trying. My parents are (surprisingly!) supportive and I'm slowly but surely getting closer to my goal of a wonderfully cultural experience.
